  1. Kludge as in fudge: as she is writ. It’s an English (British) expression, only ‘yankified’ with US involvement in WWII, and popularised by US dominance of Internet and keyboards. So much of English (and other languages) is similarly kludged: US randomly drops doubled-consonants that end syllable: why traveling but not runing? Carbureter, French origin, burettes (measures) petrol fluid on demand, car is French ‘because’, US pronunciation carburater (is there a verb to burate? 🙁 🙁 🙁

  2. I don’t spell it with an ambiguous “u.” It’s klooge as in stooge and Scrooge. Anyway, this is the Left Coast pronunciation.
