That is Homer Price, the lead character in two books by Robert McCloskey, published in 1943 and 1951. The thing in the valise is Homer’s pet skunk. Of course.
More info here:
Homer is clearly a fellow we need to know more about. I have ordered the book.

What’s that in the valise?
coon skin hat….
Pet skunk. I did some Googling. This is a from one of the Homer Price books. We need to know more about Homer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_Price?fbclid=IwAR2cRUCurQBXaP-m4LdPFBOnBU4nvgZwtOZqrAzF8MaGvS4Xb_eTWHSWE2E
The picture of him working on a radio looks eerily similar to my old room growing up. I did not have a skunk, but my best friend had a skunk in their home, and they had it de-scented. The skunk was like a cat crossed with a ferret! Ferrets are a fun little creatures, until they run up your pants leg.
I loved those books. I still have the originals. The drawing are delightful. The donut machine!
McCloskey’s other books are as charming. Blueberries for Sal…
very cool…

Though the diet can provide advantages, it may also be tricky to follow along with regularly. Some indicate that ketone supplements may mimic ketosis and increase blood ketone levels without altering your diet plan. But, that is not precisely the way your body adjusts it. https://shapemeon.com/5676/exogenous-ketones/
If you like Homer, check out The Mad Scientist Club books also. The author, Bertrand Brinkey also worked aroundcthe world for the military and toik his family along
There’s a faithful adaptation of that story on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXeYNmqp8X4
The book arrived today. The skunk was Homer’s pet, named Aroma. Aroma lived under the porch. Each night, Homer would lower the basket from his window, give Aroma the signal to climb aboard, and then Homer would bring him up. Aroma would accompany Homer as he worked on his radios.
I still have a couple of Tom Swift books. I read and re-read them as a kid. One was “Tom Swift and his Jetmarine”, and I think the other was a flying laboratory, but I don’t recall the title.
I read those as well. The first one was Tom Swift and his Flying Lab, the second one was the Jetmarine, and the third one was Tom Swift and his Rocket ship. I also read the Mad Scientist Club books back when I was a kid as well. Great stuff.
