Arduino and the Techno-Hippies

Phillip Torrone over on Maker blog has a good article about the Arduino, and what you can do with it. I especially liked his comments on the “techno-hippie” aspect of the Arduino project (“Arduino: baby-talk programming for the pothead”), and how it might be “Italy’s Google.”

Will we soon see Arduino’s working alongside Raspberry Pi computers?

  1. Arduino is all nice and powerful but PICAXE will do all the things listed in the article cheaper and easier (programming). http://www.picaxe.com/ The smallest PICAXE costs a couple of bucks and will do the most amazing stuff along with the simplest stuff. For example: Have a project that requires several timers? Why use 555s and a bunch of parts when you can simply program up an 08M2 chip to handle all of them? How about a digital voltmeter for the blind that reads out in Morse? 50 lines of code. Only a half-dozen components needed to get going with PICAXE, including the chip and the programming interface! 73…….Steve Smith WB6TNL “Snort Rosin”
