Seeing EM Waves with a Coffee Can

Thanks to Leif KC8RWR for alerting me to this. Amazing stuff, but somehow I think they need to get an Altoid tin into this project. You can sense the enthusiasm.

  1. Neat ! I did that experiment with sound waves as a science project back in 1972. Used a mic pickup on the end of a yardstick which was mixed with a reference tone. Another amp from the mixer out drove a neon lamp next to the mic. I took “pictures” of sound waves using a long exposure on a Polaroid camera and sweeping the mic/lamp in front of a speaker driven by the reference tone. Won second prize in the science fair !
