Wow Bill, I picked up my copy of ‘From Atoms to Amperes’ for ~$40 shipped from the UK and I thought perhaps that was a bit too much to pay… sounds like I got the deal of the century! I have a co-worker who deals in rare books and I believe he’s said that a lot of the pricing calculation is automated — so it could very well be that heightened interest in (and probably the scarcity of) the title have led to these humorous listings. On the book pricing – probably another instance of what’s reported at http://idle.slashdot.org/story/11/04/26/141247/Amazon-Automatic-Pricing-Lists-Book-At-23M . Two sellers each had computerized algorithms that checked other sellers’ online prices to set their own, and this resulted in a positive feedback loop that sent the price higher each time they ran the calculations.
