Trevor reminded me that Parkes (“The Dish”) was not the only Australian antenna at work during Apollo 11. This very nice video gives a more complete description of what happened.

Thanks for the link to that video Bill. I hadn’t seen it before and now have a better understanding of what actually took place. That solid looking bloke, the host of the video, who was eight at the time, was a top Australian rugby player.
