“Basta Blues” with Pete Juliano on the Guitar

What makes this short video special is the fact that the music was all completely designed (composed) and homebrewed (played) by Pete himself.

From Pete:

In Italian when one has finally had enough –the Hue and Cry is BASTA! I have been having some Basta Moments in trying to make Arduino 1.6.3 work with sketches developed in Version 1.0.5.

So for some comic relief I decided to program a 240X320 Color TFT with a random pattern generator using the word Basta! Of course is was done in Arduino 1.0.5!

Patrick, F6AWY, The SSB Carpenter (Homebrew Hero)

There he is: Patrick, F6AWY, the builder of the beautiful wooden-case SSB transceiver featured here two days ago. Born in 1945, Patrick has been melting solder since age 15. This picture made me think that there must be some connection between string instruments and homebrew genius: Farhan plays guitar. So does Pete Juliano. I think it was Rick Campbell who was strumming the banjo at FDIM… More about Patrick here: http://www.araccma.com/f6awy-p821004

Here is another of Patrick’s projects. He completely rebuilt an old Geloso AM transmitter. Note the markings on the front panel. Signed with a dash of F6AWY panache!

Check out Joe’s VERY long-running audio studio project. It appears to be mostly appliance/commercial gear, but look closer and you will discover that most of it is homebrew.

Very cool to have world famous rocker and fellow boatanchor enthusiast Joe Walsh singing about the virtues of analog.
What next?
An ode to 60/40 solder?
Some troubleshooting blues?

Shack Background Music from Pandora Radio

Billy alerted me to Pandora. Very cool. You just give it an indication of the kind of music you’d like to listen to. They do the rest. I started out with Creedance Clearwater Revival, and Pandora proceeded to send me a stream of sort-of similar rock. Streaming audio through the web. And it is apparently all legal (you listen to a commercial every once in a while). This is great for background music in the shack. After all, you can only listen to so much SolderSmoke, and 75 meter SSB chatter is not good for you. I’m not sure if it is available outside the USA. I hope it is.
