He joined the Fidelity Amateur Radio Club, then K1NQG, <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">of <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_0\">Cranston, RI<\/span>, which was started by Merrill Budlong (SK), then W1QLD, later W1MB, in 1958. Merrill had <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">a 2-B at that time, so I am almost certain Peter was referring to Merrill&#8217;s receiver.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\"> Peter received a bachelor&#8217;s degree in English from the <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_1\">University of Rhode Island<\/span>. He was an adventurer. After college, we briefly worked together at Merriam Instruments, which was <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">owned by Robert <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">Merriam,W1NTE. (Bob is the founder and curator of The <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_2\">New England<\/span> Museum of <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">Wireless and Steam in <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">East Greenwich, RI.) Peter soon got wanderlust. He loaded his backpack and <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">took a 1 year trot around <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">the globe. I was astouded when I got a Nepalese postcard from him! Since then <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">he helped deliver vessels from the <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_3\">east coast<\/span> to <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_4\">Seattle<\/span> via the <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_5\">Panama<\/span> canal, worked at the Voice of <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">America, worked in marine electronics in <span style=\"border-bottom: 2px dotted rgb(54, 99, 136); cursor: pointer; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1310032728_6\">Port Townsend, Washington<\/span>, and has worked for at least two <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">communications equipment manufacturers. I&#8217;m sure he had many other adventures.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\"> The Fidelity Amateur Radio Club is still alive and doing well. Some of the original members are still active with the club, <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">but most of us are gray\/bald, fatter, and move slower, but we still love the hobby and appreciate what Merrill <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">did to get so many of us started in our careers. Since Merrill&#8217;s passing his callsign was <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">transferred to the <\/span><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\">club and we used it this past Field Day.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"font-family:Arial;font-size:130%;\"> Keep up the good work!
