FB Arnie!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">My TS820 non QRP, but capable of <\/span><span style=\"border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer; font-style: italic;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1221711346_0\">QRP operation<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> transceiver. &#8230;<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> has a similar type of female 9 pin socket to connect or not connect<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> the external VFO.<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> I needed a plug when not using the external VFO, and it was made<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> using a Russian 6H2P dual triode that had a bad filament&#8230;<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> I very carefully broke down the glass using nichrome wire at red hot<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> temperature and then a <\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1221711346_1\">thermal shock<\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> The glass bulb broke nicely in a rounded even circle !!!<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> Then I proceeded to remove the soldered connections to the two triodes&#8230;<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> removed them , and soldered the wires required for the jumpers as<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> specified by TS 820 manual&#8230;<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> After checking that all was OK, then I poured Araldite epoxy to fill<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> the glass &#8230;<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> It worked very well, and the only cost was the small amount of valuable<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> epoxy ( not easy to find locally, and extremely useful for repair jobs<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> and pasting the islands of the Manhattan style homebrew <\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> printed-nonprinted circuits !!!<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> 73 and DX<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\" class=\"yshortcuts\" id=\"lw_1221711346_2\">Arnie Coro<\/span> <span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> CO2KK<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arnie posted this on QRP-L.
